Lets Play
A term used by every kid while growing up! Or when grown ups wanna have some fun.
Play with colours; play with toys and even play with food at times.
Creating mood board at a start of any project, for me is about play of fabrics, inspiration, textures, wall colours etc
Yeah....this is where I say to myself; Namrata lets play it well!
While interiors can be technical, styling means you can have fun!
Being passionate about textiles, art and craft I do like to bring these elements into my projects.
Setting the right tone for the mood board is the preface to a story.
While it's easier to do plain, monochromatic, tone on tone, tried and tested colours and certainly far easier to convince a client for that, but the fun my dear, is in the play of textures, patterns, prints and colours.
Here's a quick peak on how I play!
A combination of greens and coral pinks, this cheerful theme with patterns, stripes, solids in fabric and cross stitch design in wallpaper is stunning for a bedroom or a large living room.
White windows, with eclectic art - it has the right touch for chic french country decor or tropical.
Living Room
I love the idea of many cushions in different patterns and designs lying casually on the couch.
Lets accept it...one coloured contrast cushion is - no imagination!.
It's just convenient.
It's passe'.
It's predictable.
And its certainly not having fun at play!
Bed Room
At this point I'am in love with large head boards. Every room needs a focal point, head board is a good place to start. Besides - be it a king or queen, one must live being one, at least in our dreams!
If not the head board, wall colour or wall paper is a fab way to turn your room around.
Mood Inspiration
When I'am taking inspiration from the net,I love to add some quirky elements to my story. My love for sweets, food and table styling is a well known fact......hence all my mood board inspirations will have macrons,a drink, flowers and one quirky element!
Can you spot the quirky one in this?
Hint : it has no connection to the overall look, but has the right colour!
How much is too much?
Once the mood board is done, the next step is to understand where to use what fabric.
It's important to keep in mind the correct ratio of stripes, checks, prints and solids depending on personal preferences of the end user and the over all theme.
Even a crazy eclectic look needs careful curation......only possible when you are passionate about colours, right tones, fabrics, surface finishes and ready to be risque' at play!
